Welcome to the NIGERIAN ARMY SCHOOL OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

WELCOME TO NASFA

The Nigerian Army School of Finance and Adadministration (NASFA) was established in 1968 with the sole aim of training and retraining the Nigerian Army personnel on financial and administrative matters. It has since extended that training to include other members of the Armed Forces and some other paramilitary organisations. The peculiar nature of NASFA as a ... military institution makes its students subject to military dictates while pursuing their course of study Having received full accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), NASFA have tried to position itself as one of the most recognized Tertiary Military Institutions. The various departments, laboratory facilities, sport facilities as well as other learning aids have met and even surpassed the NBTE required standards for polytechnics.

MISSION STATEMENT

To provide academic training in financial, administrative and military duties for officers and men in the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Police.

INTRODUCTION

In 1956, a departmental coaching course was arranged for a set of newly posted recruits from Nigerian Regiment Training Centre Zaria in Room 26 District Pay Office. It later became known as the Nigerian Army Pay Corps Training School (NAPCTS) in 1968 and thereafter became an AHQ recognized institution. From a departmental coaching centre, it was then expanded to run more courses for NAPC personnel under a British Warrant Officer called Symon. It was subsequently commandeered by a Nigerian Warrant Officer called Edem ... who later retired as a Captain from the Nigerian Army. The school’s name was changed from NAPCTS to Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA) on 1 November 1981. NASFA’s main objective is to provide academic training in financial and administrative duties for officers and men in the Armed Forces. The scope has now been extended to include the Police and other security agencies. In pursuance of this objective, the school continued to develop structurally, humanly and materially. Over the years, the school has undergone changes both in command, scope and academics. NASFA has metamorphosed from its original function of basic training of soldiers to a full fledged institution of higher learning, and then as a Monotechnic in 1978. In 1985, the school was duly accredited by NBTE to run courses leading to the award of a National Diploma (ND) and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy. It was later accredited in 1992 to run Secretarial Studies. The Accountancy Department of the School was also given recognition by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1987. The School has the Service Accounts Department, Department of Accountancy, Clerk General Duties Department and Office Technology Department.

MANAGEMENT AND SERVICES ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT

The Service Accounts Department (SAD) was established in 1968 to train pay clerks on pay duties from B3 to B1. In 1969, the Accounts Career Course was introduced which was later changed to Basic Accounts Career (BAC) Course. The BAC was replaced with the Accounting Technician Scheme (ATS) in 1991 which was discontinued in 2002. ATS course... was introduced to provide the middle grade clerk for the Corps. The products of the BAC entered for the Royal School of Accountancy (RSA) examinations and many excelled. Some of them qualified for trainings in London to study various professional accountancy programmes. The young officers posted to the Corps were first trained in NASFA in 1981. Thereafter, the Cashier, Account Inspectors and Assistant Director of Army Finance and Accounts (ADAFA) courses were introduced. The department is currently known as the Management and Service Accounts Department (MASAD). The ADAFA Course is now known as the Commander Division Finance and Accounts Course (CDFA Course) in line with restructuring in 2009.

DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTANCY

The establishment of the Professional Accountancy Department in 1978 was to meet the manpower needs of the Corps at professional level. The ND products started the HND programme in 1980 with 8 students receiving the award of HND certificate in 1982. Both the ND and HND programmes have been accredited and reaccredited by the (NBTE) and recognized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

THE CLERK GENERAL DUTIES/RECORDS DEPARTMENT

The Clerk GD Department was established in 1972 to take over the Clerks GD Courses ran in Nigerian Military Training Centre (NMTC) in Jaji Kaduna. The Department trains GD Clerks from B3 to B1. The department also introduced the Chief Clerk Course in 1980 which was meant to serve as an orientation course for all Chief Clerks in the NA. The Chief Clerk Course was discontinued in 2002.

OFFICE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Secretarial Studies Department (SSD) was established in 1978 to meet with the challenges of having NA trained secretaries to serve as Personal Assistant (PA) to senior military officers. This was to replace the civilian secretaries that were hitherto being used. The first of trainees were awarded CS4 certificate on graduation. The scope of the course was... expanded to Diploma Level in 1981. The ND programme was accredited by the NBTE in 1992, while the HND was introduced in the year 2001. The SSD was later transformed to the Office Technology Department in 2009.

LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT

The Language Department was established in 2018 to meet with the challenges of having NA trained in langugages and to service other departments in teaching the following:

  • ND and HND French Language
  • Short Courses: French Language (ICT Management and YOC)
  • Basic French Course which now include Arabic, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa which prior to now, exited under the GNS department.

  • The department has successfully produced soldiers who wrote professional exams and passed. The department has also written book titled "INTERACTIVE FRENCH BOOK:.
